I am about to upgrade and am thinking of gett ing a ready made system this time around. I was thinking about this board but am wondering if it is very noisy.. There is an extra fan on the northbridge or southbridge chip. Anyone any ideas on this?

Northbridge fans are not usually noisy, but they may fail relatively early because they usually have sleeve bearings instead of ball. When they begin to fail, they get really noisy.
No matter, you can replace these fans with a Zalman heatsink - which is never noisy.
Tnhanks for that reply. I have not been able to find out if it is the northbridge, but I think that it might be the southbridge as it is not usual to have a fan there. It seems that one version of the board has passive cooling but Asus do not seem to feature this board on their sits - the A8N-E premium

A64s don't really have a north bridge since the memory controller is built into the cpu.

No matter - the same applies to southbridge fans.
