my job thats is....:D
Couldn't stand it no more. i Work at a call centre under the Vodafone Department. I handed my notice in at the beginning of the month so I would have left at the end of Feb.
Any way today i had a very sore throat could hardly talk at all, went in to work at 8.00 am just to see if I could make it through the day, by 8:30 my voice was inaudible and I said to my team leader (my supervisor) that i'll be off at 9.00. well the manager (Team Leaders boss) over heard this (some how....) and asked me to stay untill 10.00. We were not that busy so i thought ok I'll do it, come 10.00 it was very busy and I still coudln't work and said i was going home, manager asked again but to stay untill 11.30 reluctantly I said "yes", come 11.15 I i was sick to death, asked me team leader to go and he said wait untill 11.30 aswell. so i did (I didnt work, couldnt I barley spoke). I remeber the week previsouly a friend of mine had the same problem, the managers kept asking her to stay abit long untill 5.00pm they said she could go (we both fin 5.30pm) and I was not going to wait untill then so I packed up and left and didnt say a word (litteraly)
Now a friend of mine over heard the managers talking about me and were going to give me a stern 'tellin' off' because I never mentioned it to them. That was it, I was going to return to work tommoro to hand in my equipment but not anymore.
What makes this even worse is that for the past 5 months (only been working there 7 months) I was building number management systems for every colleague in the Vodafone department in my own time and free because they have terrible systems in place there. I never got a 'thanks' of 'good job' or any recognition from the management.
I've never worked for such a terrible company in all my working life. Also, they mess my shifts up every month, and the admin have the IQ of a wet tea bag
I feel better now after a good whine....:D

...being a manager, i know that those guys are idiots...I have never made anyone work longer then they were supposed to, or change their schedule without their notification..

Tony, it will take you a few years to realize that no company or supervisors give a happy dam what becomes of you as an individual. They are only interested in keeping the business going forwards...and you as a peon will help do that as long as you do the freebies for them...work when you are ill, etc.
When you land another good job, work your shifts and go home...do not ever offer to build or repair **** on your time...all you have to sell for Christs sake is your time!!
If they want or ask you to do extra work outside of business hours...do not ever think that doing so will help you to look better in the "boss' eyes"...he couldn't care less..but, he/she has learned how to work/control people...that is how he became boss!!
When you are sick..call in sick..and do not come in until you are well enough to work..ok, so you will loose a few days on your paycheck..most responsible workers build up at least 10 days pay in a savings account to help them get thru such as this...thats called responsibility.
Some of you may think I do not know what in the H*** I am talking about...so, let me just say that in 50 years of my work life, I managed to go from laborer to supervisor in a Fortune 500 type company.... I attended supervisor training schools that mentioned exactly what I wrote above.

i am a manager myself. and i expect 100% from every body at all time. sick or not, i don't get to go home when I'm sick, why should you. i had a terrible cold all week, and still went to work and didn't complain to anyone. I'm there to do a job and i will get the job done.
i never mist a day at work in my life, and this is why i got to where I'm at.
when i was 21y/o i mess my arm up in a dirt bike fall on a Friday night drunkenness, and my job at the time was to drive a truck, delivering tires, well i still went to work the on Monday, driving the stick shift truck with only one arm. that didn't give me a promotion or anything, but told me that; it doesn't matter how sick you are, you can still do your job...
so i only have one tip for you; though it up if you want to get somewhere in life. if not, you'll always gonna be a peon...;)

Or dead.
Dead is stable.
The best thing I ever did was to quit my last job some 7 years ago. I'm now my own boss so if I get sick and don't work it hits me directly.
Since I work as a computer repairer/consultant there is no end of work for me to do. Perhaps one day when MS make a proper OS things might slow down.

Quite an issue raised there Dozer.
It runs deeper than personal issues. Maybe run a clean post on it.
With stuff like virus colds flu etc... (fer moi) those who soldier in to work and suffer on should really be prosecuted and dealt with harshly.
One runny nose and 2 days later whole departments are running under temp power.
In Dozers line of work, its the symptoms which appear a couple of weeks later, that are the ones to worry about, pennicilin has been over used, and now it's not the magic bullet it used to be.

The only way to get ahead in this country is to get a job being a pickle farmer.

Workers should not be expected to work when ill, in fact just the opposite, they should be encouraged to stay away and get medical help. It's huge a liable exposure for a company to to do otherwise. It can result in their workmans comp insurance to go up (no small thing these days), as well as all out lawsuits if some rare disease gets spread around the workplace from some craphead insisting that workers stay when sick. What a load of BS

I concur. Its usually not so much a problem when the guy you work for doesn't actually own the business and take a personal loss for each hour you are sick. Those are the guys that will try to keep you working till your legs drop off no matter how sick you are.

I thought it was just me ............. I fink Bovy has peen peering inside my brain
On a more serious note, one of the reasons I opened up on my own was ....... Well 2 reasons really 1. No one else would employ me  2. I found my recent boss's/supervisors to be animals.
Man management is a skill....... Not every Tom,Dick or Harry can do it ....... However a lot of companies will have anyone on the management team.
Tony Don't take your stuff back mate........ Write to them & tell them they can come & collect it after making an appointment.... (Sent the letter signed for) You will never see anyone again from that firm :t

thing is i talk to the customers over the phone and if i cant speak (from being sick) i cant work. well lesson learned thats all i can so.
and as for taking stuff back - if i dont they will charge me through the teeth for it.
The manager her self was also ill (thats what she claimed) and said "If I can work so can you" but her job is paper work and arguing with customers.
I even offered to do some paper work isntead of calls!
I think i'll take up JF's offer of being a pickel farmer......
also my dog cr*pped in my bag this morning...

Just make up some crud about how you don't want to come back to the workplace but will be fine with them sending someone to collect the stuff.
As JM says, they'll probably never send anyone and you score some 'freebies' :)

I once worked on a broken leg doing intensive physical labor and you can't sit on a cushy office chair and play patty cakes with someone on the phone because you have a sniffle? You better get used to fluff work because it looks like you have a long road of it ahead of you.

wasn't a sniffle - i couldn't speak - i offered to do some other work but they are famous for being tw*ts when things like this come up, and as for the freebies i've for a head set that does not fit athing, a locker key and a an electronic key for some reason

The Spartans as known today moved from Asia Minor (possibly India) to mainland Greece during the 8th 7th Century BC, Integrated and then Dominated the indigenous local population - developing the caste system of their asian ancestors into a warrior creed. The Kings of Sparta, there were Two at a time were descended from Hercules and here in lies the absolute bunkum of modern day religion and racial supremacy.
