Hi,
thinking about getting a internal CD-Rom
that writes. my problem is that
my MBoard's IDE cables are all in use with
my HD,2 Floppy Dr,40x Cd-Rom. what is the
best recommendation to get the most out
of a Writable CD-Rom. I can takeout 1 floppy
drive to make room for it. I heard a CD-Rom
/W needs it's own PC for best quality
copying and since a typical MB only has 4
IDE connections, What's the best option?

Species8476,

If you have only 1 Harddrive and 1 CD-rom you should still have 2 IDE "ports" avaliable. for your information "standard" 3.5 floppies use a different cable and conection than the IDE channels.....What Motherboard do you have?

Each IDE cable can have 2 devices on it. (1 master and 1 slave)

Set your computer up in this fashion.

IDE Channel 1 Master = Boot harddrive
IDE Channel 1 Slave = CD-rom

IDE Channel 2 Master = CD Burner
IDE Chaneel 2 Slave = 2nd harddrive if any.

If you have other questions please post followups!

Good Luck

Thank-You for your reply.

that answered my question.. trying to find
this out for my father. I'm not sure what
kind of MB he has. he told me that he has
his HD,2 Floppies,40x CD-Rom and I forgot to
mention a Scsi card. he was not sure with all
this hardware a CDR-W would function correctly since just about all CDR-W's
require an enhanced ide interface.
