I have a pentium 200mmx oc'd to 249, at 3.1v.

I use a S3Virge dx/gx, revB video card w/4mb memory.

DAC Type - Internal
Features - Direct Draw

I use an AOC Spectron 5E monitor.

My question is the following, what is a good refresh rate for 800 x 600 resolution? Right now, I have it set to "optimal", but I know windows options that include "optimal" or "best" are not always just that!

I would assume (there's that word again!) the higher the refresh rate, the better.

Choices are 56, 60, 72, 75 and 85hz. Then there's adapter default and of course, optimal. How can I find what the adapter default and optimal settings are? Are they located in the registry?

I just don't trust windoze to give me the best performance.....

Also, my monitor manual doesn't say a thing about refresh rates. BUt, is that the same as Vertical Frequency? The numbers offered there seem to correspond to the options in my advanced settings tab.

It does say in the manual that VESA/75 800x600 53.67khz horiz freq, 75hz vert freq

and

VESA/85 800x600 53.67Khz horiz freq, 85hz vert freq.

So, would the best thing be to go to 85hz refresh rate, of am I completely out of the park?

Any help at all would be appreciated.

the higher the refresh rate the better
yours appears to support 85 Hz @ 800x600
if it flickers notch it back

Thanks smokin' I appreciate it! Just curious though, I'd like to know what windoze picked to be my optimal refresh rate.
