When I tell my computer to shutdown the normal Windows 98 way, it restarts. Can this be fixed?

Thanks...

try removing the check mark (or adding cant remember now) from fast shutdown. I think its under advanced settings in device manager. Im using Win95 now at work so 98 is not in front of me..sorry

I have this same problem.

You can disable "Fast Shutdown" to eliminate this but is seems to be a "take-back" to have to do this.

The Windows Annoyances site refers to situation if you have edited the bmp's that display during shutdown (I never did this but got problem anyway). Also refers to "buggy drivers" with no further help.

To disable Fast Shutdown, start MSINFO32 (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSINFO\MSINFO32.EXE -- if I didn't make any typos in all this!). Or search for the file. I put this item on my desktop the first time I used it as it is usefull to check and repair System Files corrupted by later programs.

On the MSUNFO32 screen, click the "Tools" tab then click System Configuration Tool. The first panel you will see is "General" and it has an "Advanced" button. Click this and you will see a number of check boxes one of which is Disable Fast Shutdown. Click this and restart once before shutting down. Works for me.

A fast way to accomplish the above fix is to go to Start in the taskbar, go to "Run", and type "msconfig" in the box. Click on the "Advanced" button and you can disable your Fast Shutdown.
