I have a K6-500, make an offer and I'll ship it to you. It's brand new. A friend of mine a few years ago was going to give me his computer and I was going to upgrade it to a K6-500 so I bought one but then he threw it out instead.

nadine, I have a K6-2+ 550(?) maybe 533 Mhz, I can't remember.

This CPU will O/C good, it is a mobile version of the K6-III processor line..but many times, the motherboard needs a BIOS upgrade to recognize it.

When I used it, I ran it at 650 Mhz for awhile, and it did good.

If you do not find a 550 K6-2 or anything else that will work for you, get in touch by PM and we can talk about it.

I think I can let it go cheap..but not at $15 US.. I gave nearly $100.00 for the thing 3 years ago...LOL

You might have something to trade?...

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but let me borrow it for a day or two! If you want, I'll order a new one froem Newegg and then remail it to you (as a used-*wink wink*gift!!, screw the GST).
Least I could do fer a fellow (er, to be pc, cohort in crime and passion) Kanookian(sic). LMK, I recently bought a couuple of those. They worked well, but one (might be the mobo-asusP5A-b) would not stably run 500 mhz at 100 fsb, had to set to 95 fsb and 475 mhz instead.

And for the hijack, Bovom, if you have a true K6-2 +-PLUS! I must have that, it will work as replacement for my moms email rig. PM/email me if ya would...thanx!

My ad in profile, duly disguised. Or just pm.

nadine.... I have a back problem, and it is paining me right now pretty bad. I have not forgotten and will look for the processor as soon as I can.

I moved from SC to GA in August and I still have a lot of parts boxed up.. I was sick at the time, and did not get to make a listing of what was in which box and I am not able at the moment to pull out and "dump" boxes.. I will find the surplus processors this week I promise.

nadine, I know I have a K6-2 500 because it is in the motherboard I had as a backup system...the case cover was off of the case, and did not get included in the move...but, the CPU and heatsink is still there...would you be interested in that maybe?.. The motherboard is an ASUS socket 7 board

Thx for pm bovon. Also sorry to hear about your back trouble. I literally know how you feel. Too well. oh well, we go on...

That cpu of yours, if is truly a + chip, will be a 450mhz. If it is a 500 or 550, it is NOT a plus. I'm pretty sure of this, as I am in need of specifically a 450 + chip, as you are aware. When able, LMK the chip id string, esp if it will not work for Nadine.

Nadine, Some of the ss7 boards also have known bug trying to run either a k-63 or 2 "+", so either research your board, and/or don't get a plus chip.

I also have a couple extra k62, if you want a real inexpensive one, could mail you one for just the cost of shipping.
I have a total of 5, all are rated as 266, but all pulled 333, and 3 went 350 without any modifications or stability problems. Just requires a jumper switch.

If you wish, I can pull out and test them all, and send you one of the 350 capable chips. You probably will not note any appreciable difference between a 233, 266, and a 500. The older rigs often have other bottlenecks, primarily lo fsb or older memory.

Does the computer use sdram or edo? Some of those ss7's could run either, but sdram much better. And definitely a 100 mhz fsb.

LMK, good luck.

Well---krazefinn
That cpu of yours, if is truly a + chip, will be a 450mhz. If it is a 500 or 550, it is NOT a plus.

I don't have a clue what I have then...and apparently you could not use it anyway. Following are the specs from the top...( you got my curiosity up and I got my cousin over here to find the box they were in ) LOL

AMD-K6-2+/533ACZ
2.0V CORE/3.3V I/O
A 0025EPAW
copyright 1999 AMD

AND!! I even have a spare K6-2/500 that I had forgotten about.

Now that is interesting indeed. I suspect that may be a mobile, late chip. Those plus chips do command abit of premium, the regular -2 most folks sell for only shipping or up to about $10.

The plus variants however (especially the 450 for some reason) commands a premium, have seen those resell for up to $25 or 30, sometimes less when seller unaware of demand.

I'd suggest Nadine use your 500 provided ya'll come to terms, if her board has jumpers, probably will be able to overclock it easily to 550, without any heat or stability issues, but that is highly individual.

Good luck!

HI:Thanks a lot Guys for your responses
In the past 8 month one of my Old Computers was running
a K6-2/500MHZ But that CPU died
and now I am using a K6-2/350MHZ
So I hope If I can find a k6-2/550MHZ To make that old PC
Run Faster
BTW:I do have 5 Computers & 4 of
them Run a Intel CPU,S Except one Of them which Run a AMD K6-2/350MHZ
Cheers de Nadine...

Ok nadine...so... you will continue to look for a K6-2 550? instead of trying this K6-2+ 533?

I really could not blame you because I am reasonably sure your FIC 503+ will require a BIOS flash. If I understood what I was reading at the time, the JE444 BIOS file was a modded file for the 503+ to recognize the 2+ mobile and the 2 III processors.

As krazefinn has suggested, a K6-@ 500 will easily run at 550 Mhz, but would need a better than average heatsink...they do run a bit warm when O/C'd, but not nearly as bad as the more modern socket A processors.

:Hi:Thank you very much Monsieur Bovon
for your response
you are very helpful
as with regards to the CPU
I Think the K6-2/500 will Work fine with
my Current Bios JE439 But I do not think
the Overclock will make any different on the Speed
also may Produce a lot of Errors
So If I can Find the K6-2/550MHZ it would be great
Otherwise I Will have To Use the k6-2/500MHZ without doing
any Overclocking
BTW:I heard all the K6-2/550MHZ it doesn,t Run Stable
on most SS7 motherboards
On the other hand The K6-2/500MHZ it usually Run
Superb on most SS7 motherboards
Cheers de Nadine...

Ok nadine.. I understand exactly what you need...

Here is some little known information about AMD processors back in the K6-2 days.

AMD was behind in the technology compared to Intel... Intel was putting out a true 500 Mhz processor and AMD had not perfected theirs yet. AMD took a K6-2 450 and increased its Vcore and marked it as a 500 Mhz... I had one of these early 500 MHz K6-2 CPU's, and it DID NOT RUN good and stable at 500 Mhz.

I have read where the K6-2 550 was the same, but I never read anything official about that...and I have never run a 550 Mhz CPU here...only this K6-2+ 533, which I had it running stable at 650 Mhz with 2.2 Vcore...it did run stable at 2.0 Vcore, but tried to hang a couple of times, so I increased the Vcore a small amount...it still tried to hang..so, I think that problem was Win98 or something else.

PM me if you need anything else... I don't get to this forum very often

Cheers..
