I recall that at one time we could buy one license of Office and install it on the "server" (or just one machine in a peer to peer) and run the apps from another machine, and be OK on the licensing.

Still true or possible? I kind of doubt it because of the system file changes that occur any more with almost any app.

This is no longer the case. You now need a license for every copy of Office that is going to be run. Furthermore, even if you were to install it on a terminal server, you are supposed to buy a license for every person that is going to be using it.

if you want to be CHEAP, you will need to install Citrix

which cost you just about as much as many copies of Office

so to REALLY save money and being CHEAP

go and use http://www.openoffice.org/

100% free, and no hassles, it works 100% exactely like MS Office, even better :)

Even Citrix no longer gets you aound the need to buy a license for every user.
