is there anyway to play a dvd from scotland? the region is different for it so it won't work I guess. wouldn't something like dvdshrink allow me to make another copy of it to watch on my player?

*also* I thought I heard once that if you stuck another dvd region dvd into your player it could mess the settings. is this true or am I ok to put this in my player or burner to attempt getting it to work?

If you use dvdshrink to make a copy, it is the region free, so you can watch it on any DVD player, provided the DVD player supports the dvd media ( DVD-R or DVD+R )

Putting that DVD in your DVD player shouldn't change your settings. Putting it in your computer's DVD drive shouldn't change anything either. If you put it in your computer you might have to change the DVD drive's region temporarily while while you make the backup. DVDShrink is exactly the program you want to use to do this, too.

Canada is Region One. You can find more about DVD regions HERE. (http://hometheater.about.com/cs/dvdlaserdisc/a/aaregioncodesa.htm)

You still might not be able to watch it because the DVD is probably in PAL instead of NTSC though. You'll have to experiment and find out.
