Half Life 2 freezes at loading screen...

Hey,

My brother just got Half Life 2 and whenever he tries to play it, the game just freezes at the 'Loading' screen. We let it sit there for about 5 minutes and yet no response. One interesting note is that I can see and move the mouse cursor around, but nothing else about the computer responds. Can anyone help me?

Geforce 5200 FX 128 Meg
640 megs PC2700
2x 40 gig Maxtor HDD

Have all the steam updates for HL2 been downloaded? Also, are all the drivers up to date on the system?

Also, try going here:

D:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\username\half-life 2\hl2\cfg

and open up the valve.rc file. Comment out the "startuplevel" line and see if that helps. That should disable the 3d menu from loading at startup.

That computer is on the low end of the HL2 requirements, are you sure it will run decently?

I got it working, all I did was to put "-novid -console" and it works. :D
