HDC : Hard Drive Controller Failure.

Check your wiring and make sure the red line on the ribbon cable is facing the power connector on the Hard Drive side, make sure the other end the line is facing pin 1.

Also does the computer beep at all and what are they with the name of your bios.

Check the jumper settings on the HD and see if it is set to master. Some drives have a single drive setting or 1-2 master settings experiment with these.

If you took the hard drive out recently or reset the cmos values you can get that error msg as well. If thats the case you have to enter the values (#cly, heads, sectors) back into the cmos set up screen in bios.
Of course I dont know how old or new your machine is, if its newer you may not have to do that- you can just set everything to auto.

These are possibilitys, I dont know if you messed with any of that from your post. Dont fool with the bios until you know what your doing. The links on this site are the best place to go for that.
Hope that didnt confuse the issue!

If you haven't already done what the first person suggested, change to a new cable. You wouldn't believe the problems that occur with a bad cable.

Good luck!
