Research has revealed that people are more likely to devote themselves to their animal companions than their close relatives.
Of nearly 1,000 people asked "In an average week, how many hours would you say are spent putting other people's interests or needs before your own?" a typical person spent almost 50 hours putting others’ needs before their own.
People over 55 were particularly devoted to their pets, with many seeing their animals as equally as important as friends. Examples of pet devotion included people returning early from holidays because their dog was unhappy in a kennel or being prepared to cancel a foreign due to a pet’s ill health.
