On my honeymoon in St Lucia last week, some guy from far north england (sounded scottish to me but what do I know?) taught me how to play snooker. That is one confusing game at first. And is the table really supposed to be that long?
Is it pretty common to see more snooker than billiards over there? Last time I was over there I didn't play much pool--just got drunk on scotch and took in some sights.

Snooker's got a ton of red balls, then a blue, gree, brown, yellow, pink, and black ball, each worth different amounts. You play for points, not balls in, as the colored balls come back out after they're sunk until all the red balls are gone, then you play em straight and in color/point order (like 9-ball at the end).

Snooker is a much more complex game than pool both mentally (your usally thinking at least 3 or 4 shots ahead) and in terms of the actual playing of the game (long shots on full size snooker tables are scary). I'm not bad at pool, but my Pool partner is a long time snooker player and having recently moved to Snooker (basically to provide him cannon fodder) you realise that if you want to get uber-good at pool, your gonna have to play snooker properly at some point simply because pool is so much easier.

Been ages since I played snooker, but I do remember having done it,, LOL,, ;)
I usually play good old 8 ball, sometimes 9 ball. And I'm much better after just 2 drinks, I relax and play. If I have more, well, my skills go downhill in proportion to the number of drinks beyond 2,;)

I like playing snooker but usually play 9 ball. Snooker is good to play if the person you are playing is good. It is much too difficult for a poor player as they have trouble playing shape and can't put together any runs. My table is 4.5' x 9' with small pockets so it is a good challenge for snooker. With 9 ball even a poor player can get lucky and beat you, not so in snooker. :t

I like 9 ball, i have yet to try snookers,
I have a regular 'offical' size pool table...3 piece slate on it...so i dont think u can play snookers on it cuz its too small.
I think mine is 4.5x9 also...with relativly small pockets and sharp kinda corner deal

I found snooker to be an awesome game once you get used to the rules and points.
Course, you get the guys from England from the far north and after a few drinks they have to repeat everything slower so you can understand what the hell they're saying. TONS of brits in the caribbean. Best time of year to go right now though, so I guess it makes sense for anyone in the northern hemisphere.
If you haven't played snooker on a regulation table, try it. For an 8 or 9 ball player, like me, those long green shots will kick off the vertigo.

I grew up playing SNOOKER on a full sized table and the "5" ball wild (can shoot it over and over until you miss)....it wasn't uncommon for the better players to run off 150 points by shooting the 5 ball and maintaining position. Great game but tough!

I gave up Snooker when the lager louts started frequenting my local club - about 15 years ago. :(
I still have my "rubbed down" 2 piece cue in it's case somewhere in the loft, maybe one day it'll get another glimpse of sunlight.
...and yes! "Geordies" might as well be speaking in "tongues" once they've had a few beverages, it's like talking to a non english speaking foreigner. :D
