I was having problems installing drivers for a Soundblaster Live card, in that the system would freeze when restarting after the drivers were installed. Using Goback 3 (included with Norton Systemworks 2004), I reverted my hard drive to the time when the system was turned on for the first time that day (before the drivers were installed). When the system booted up into Windows it got into an endless loop of re-installing drivers for motherboard components like programmable interrupt controllers, etc. I tried other safe points, but I wasn't sure if I was really getting back to a clean point, before any of the problems started occuring, so instead, I restored the drive from an image I had made with True Image 8.0, which worked perfectly. Can anyone shed some light on what may be going on when reverting the drive?

I've never seen GoBack do that. Did you try an earlier point?

No, I didn't try going the day before.

Well, I've seen Windows do that before - GoBack or not. It's usually just one corrupted motherboard driver that causes a cascade of re-recognition of most other devices. It's just chance, basically.

I haven't seen it since I moved to Windows 2000 and XP.
