Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : are there any free or demo .DLL cleaners? AuraEdge 08-11-1999, 05:02 PM Just wondering..thanx socalgal 08-11-1999, 08:46 PM Here's a link to some DLL free/shareware utilities. http://solo.abac.com/dllarchive/software.html BBA 08-11-1999, 09:36 PM Personally, I like the deltree /y and re-install route better. BBA AuraEdge 08-11-1999, 11:14 PM uhh BBA care to expand so i know what yer talkin about? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif BBA 08-12-1999, 12:13 AM Well, it's just that every time I tried to remove unused DLL's from an installation of windows, after a program is removed or so, some weird things would happen if not total system instability problems would demand a fresh install of windows. I had really bad crashes using a clean up utility a long time ago, so I don't trust them anymore. Since DLL's generally live in the Windows System directory, a fresh re-install of windows will purge unneccessary DLL's and such reliably. BBA socalgal 08-12-1999, 12:25 AM I have to agree with BBA there.. if it's .dll's left over from an uninstall, I would just let it go... you never know what they're really hooked up to, and they take up practically no space. Perce 08-12-1999, 04:11 PM Hey guys, comeon, they are some great programs out there to keep that old Registry clean!!! I am a PC Tech, my present test system with 95/98/NT, PQMAGIC enabled, has had well over 100 programs installed, test setups and all kinds of junk!!! Cablemodem you get download syndrome, hey looks good , D/l it!!! LOL I have had this build running for almost 9 months and it works great still with all 3 OSs http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif In the past some of these Registry cleaners were kinda twitchy http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif But check out some of the lateset, Symantac's CleanSweep 95/98/NT, is the one that I like http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gifBut for 95 and 98, there are some good free ones also http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif If your curious for reviews and comparisions, try these sight: www.winmag.com www.cnet.com both have reviews of the latest "Registry cleaners and they also have "Regedit" which works on 85 and 98, a Microsoft product that was used by their Developers http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif AuraEdge 08-12-1999, 06:04 PM Hey SocalGal...the space isnt a problem. I just hear that sometimes when theres dupes of DLL's stuff runs the older version and keeps them loaded, so that when u run something else using the same DLL, and it uses the older version instead of the new one, it crashes. Ive cleaned it once before but dont remember what I used...so Im just askin around. It was something call 'Clean System'. It scans out your system for Used DLL and Dupe DLL's and shows u all of em and u choose which ones not to move n stuff.
