You can't copy/backup files that are being used....

Steve is basically correct....You will need to create an "image" of your computer system and then you can burn the "image". (this is an answer for backing up your system)

If you are trying to "copy" your Win98 CD (make sure it is clean and has no finger prints on it as this would cause your cd-reader to stumble) also what speed is your cd-reader? If your cd-reader cant keep up with your burner, copy the win98 cd to the harddrive and then burn the "image" to the cdburner from the harddrive.

a couple of other things to check.(these tips should be used durring ANY burning)

1. Turn off any virus scanning programs
2. Turn off any screen savers
3. Turn off any programs that use system resources.
4. go in to your power management and make sure your drives are not powering down
5. make sure your burning speed is set correctly.
6. start the burn and LEAVE YOUR COMPUTER ALONE....Dont even move the mouse around or try to do anything with the computer while it is burning.

Good Luck

Have you tried Norton's Ghost?

Copy the demo to a floppy, then booting up from a floppy you can make an image of your HD. Compression is pretty good too. I have two 8 Gig HDs that I back up onto one other HD. The entire Fat32 8 Gig is stored into about a Gig image.
