I was wondering if anyone had seen this fantastic series on PBS about the 60th anniversary of the end of the Nazi death camps?

Its just an excuse for a lot of miserable gits to be self endulgent.
If the docco is recent, its was more than likely made to try to combat the rising trend of anti-semitism sweeping across europe currently.
I'm sick to death of the whole bloody thing, and I know most people I know are too.

I am a ware the Nazis really did treat the Jews despicably; & a host of other ppl too.
But for some reason we can't seem to quite get to the closure bit.
Its sad that history has repeated itself to a certain degree relatively recently in the Balkans. Which kinda goes to show ............ No we never learn

Yeah, Israel's treatment of the Palastinian population is pretty fascist, too. After the holocaust you'd think they'd be a little bit less fascist with minority populations.
Palastinians were a majority in what since 1947 has been called Israel, the Jewish Israelis have systematically driven the Palastinians from there legally owned land, using terrorist tactics at first until the US supplied them with sophisticated weapons, now they use helicopter gunships and missiles. Because God said in the old testament that he gave Israel to the Jewish race. But didn't he scatter them for being bad?
They want to watch out as they are being very bad again.

Genocide is something that should never be forgotten. It still goes on in alot of places in the world today simply because of people who say "can't people just let this go" .
Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.
It's easy to make comments about people being self serving and whiney when it wasn't any of your relatives that were tortured, raped, mutilated, made into soap, lampshades, wallets, experimented on, made into soap, had teeth yanked from their dead and sometimes not dead bodies for the precious metals, etc.
Genocide is repeating itself today, but in a more covert manner, and it's geared at the working class.
The people of the country I reside in are being sold out lock, stock, and barrel by the mega corps and their evil henchmen politicians.

true
but what pisses me off that we (germans) are so often called nazis when we are in england, france, spain or somewhere else
when i lived in london me and my friends (all germans) played football, then some eglish guys came (17/18 years old) and called us nazis, said heil hitler etc
we didnt bother, just continued playing
but why? not my fault what my country did 60 years ago, im 17!!
and why do they bother? they are 17, they had nothing to do with the war

I agree. The whole point of remembering the horrors of nazi Germany is that it doesn't happen again.
As fewer and fewer people who were actually there remain you start to hear voices saying that maybe we should stop remembering WWII. Which is of course exactly what we shouldn't do.
It was a tragic period of the worlds history, but we have stood by and watched it be done in other placse again and again, and only intervened when it was to late. The ethnic cleansing by the Serbs, was happening with UN peace keepers watching and doing nothing, and the criminals came to live in our countries to escape from facing justice as mass murderers.
Rawanda, Ethiopea, Iraq's treatment of Kurds and Shia muslims who rose up on the instigating of George Bush senior, then left without weapons or help when Saddam Hussein ruthlessly murdered 100s of 1000s of them as we watched, it makes me ashamed to be telling them now we're there to free them,

"I was wondering if anyone had seen this fantastic series on PBS about the 60th anniversary of the end of the Nazi death camps?"
I, and most of the civilised world, am tired of seeing this year after year. Genocide happens, there is nothing that can be done about it except to invade the offending countries, (and everyone can see how well that is working (note; the world wide criticism of the US invasion and ouster of genocidal Saddam)). The self centered Nancys of the world just want a good cry, IMO, no one else gives a rodent's flatulance about what some insane Germans did 2-3 generations ago.
Enjoy!

If everyone is so hopped up about remebering the holocaust, how come noone remebers that after WWII the communists of Yugoslavia killed or deported nearly all of the German population? My family had lived there for hundreds of years, yet suddenly they were put into concentration camps and starved to death. Noone remebers that. Why?
Noone really remebers too much how The United States rounded up the Japanese and stuck them in the middle of the desert into concentration cmaps during WWII.
Noone really remembers how the Russians are responsible for the deaths of some 13 million Jews in their own pogroms during and after WWII.
Noone really remebers how Japan used British POWs as forced labor to build a railroad through Southeast Asia. What about the Death March in the Phillipines?
Unless the Jews start practicing what they preach towards Palastinians in their own country, they need to shut the hell up. As far as I'm concerned they would never had gotten smacked around the way they did had they not moved into Germany and Austria after WWI and basically carpet bagged the defeated countries. They took advantage of a downtrodden people and got their asses handed to them as punishment.
If everyone wants to remeber so much, lets remember why exactly they got what they were given.

I doubt that germany will ever forget. Its ironic though, that the jews DO seem to have forgotten what was done to them and are basically doing the same to the palestinians!
Then we have Japan. Their horific war crimes have basically been officially excised from their official history.

Lastly, as far as the jews in germany just prior to WW2, a whole country just doesn't rise up against a portion of its population on th word of just a few men, all Hitler did was to exploit the feelings allready there for very understandable reasons.
My mother's maiden name was Fuhrer :)

Exactly. If anything the Jews had better remeber what got them their asses handed to them once already. Because at the rate they're going it will get handed to them again.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate jews or anything (well no more than I hate everyone else), but for an entire country to turn against them like in the late 30's and early 40's there must have been something there allready that Mr Hitler was easily able to capitalise upon.

Ahh, so that's what it was. Those silly Jews, it was their own fault all along!

Indeed there was something there: Germany was a shambles after WWI. How much easier everything is, how much more bearable your predicament becomes, if you can blame someone for what is wrong! Never mind if it is true or not! That is what Hitler capitalized upon.

Unless I'm mistaken, Jews moved into Germany and parts of Austria after WWI and bought up business and property from the people who could no longer afford them because of war reparation imposed on them and their country by the Allies. Thats where the anti-semitism came from. If remebering that little historical fact is anti-semitism then so be it.
I'm just curious why noone has spoken up to defend the Germans, Japense, British, and Americans who were all victims of concentration camps during the same time period.

You really should. Most of these people have no association with what happened in Germany during WWI and WWII. They just believe what their slanted American history books tell them.
They probably think that America rushed in and saved the day and single handedly defeated the Axis, too. I was always taught that in school. At home I heard how the English and the Russians paid the high price of victory while the Americans basically came in and cleaned up the mess.
History is always subjective, I guess.

It all depends on who writes it, or makes a movie about it, and we all know how american historical war movies are completely accurate don't we :) If they were true to life, people wouldn't want to seem them.
