Since installing SimCity3000, complete with unasked for DirectX v6, a weird phenomenon has plagued me. The numerals on the Windows clock in Systray don't change but superimpose successively on each other until all that's left is a solid rectangle.
Similarly, filenames appearing on a search eventually merge into a long black blob. And when I select a file-icon in a dialogue box, it blanks itself out.
I am running a 266MHz Pentium under Windows98 and monitoring on a brand new 17" Taxan driven through an ATI Rage Pro Expert@Work card (8MB memory.
I have tried all the obvious diagnostic routines, including uninstalling SimCity and trying (but not succeeding)to uninstall and reinstall DirectX.
My grandson and I are going out to get some fresh air while we (and you, I hope) ponder the problem. And no - it can't be the eclipse: that was two hours ago, and the glitch is still with us!
