I have used:
Microsoft Antispyware
Spyware Blaster
Spyware Guard
Spybot S&D
Ad-aware
Which ones should I run?
Should I use:
TeaTimer?
SD helper?
Is this overkill or not?

Teatimer, SD helper, SpywareBlaster & Winpatrol are resident programs that will start along with windows! I use all of these because you can't be too careful.
But how many anyone runs would depend on the amount of RAM they can afford to lose to these resources! I have 1GB and feel comfortable that these programs are not having any adverse affect on my system performance! If I only had 512MB, I would consider shutting some of them down.
I also run AVG, NIS & NAV side by side. ;)

I'm running Spy blaster, Spybot, Adaware and no problems in quite a while. I've hear that the MS app is good, but it will be fee based this summer. Unfortunately something tells me that by the time it is, some mysterious new kinds of spyware will be introduced that only it will work on. Mark my words.

I prefer GWB's rendition - has more flavour. :D
M$'s anti-spyware in combination with Webroot's Spy Sweeper covers 67 per cent of all known spyware, malware and scumware.
Ad-Aware and SpyBot gives something like 40 per cent coverage when used in combination.
The advice that Ad-Aware and SpyBot are the choice combination is outdated.
An excellent program that installs sites know to be full of nasties (about 8000 of them that are installed in to the restricted IE zone) is IE-SpyAd at:

Stop using Internet Explorer. Use Firefox
Don't download dumb free files = no spyware:t

nastyware comes in many other forms than just downloads!
E-mails can carry all kinds of trash these days, so it's not just about what browser you choose or your download\browsing habits.
You also have to protect yourself from friends that are not as security conscious as you may be.
