I upgraded my Windows 95 to 98 with the upgrade version of 98.

I was thinking of re-istalling from scratch.

Is it possible to re-istal windows 95 then re-install the upgrade to windows 98 or will this mess everything up?

At the moment I can't access my control panel from the my computer icon. to get to the control panel i must go in through windows explorer. I accidentally deleted something and now i cant access control panel any other way...

what can i do to fix it?everthing else under the My computer file works fine just the control panel is messed up.

thanks,
need help before i mess it all up!!!!

You can reinstall 98 right over top of your existing setup - no need to reinstall 95 first.

yes, you can install windows 98 on a blank formatted hdd. make a start up disk so you'll have a CD ROM driver, put the windows 98 disk in..then when it prompts you for an existing OS, put your windows 95 in the CD ROM. easy as that.

Just reinstall the Win98 upgrade.
If this doesn't work, make a backup of your data, then reload the whole system.

Good Luck!

Okay, what you do is create a startup disk (through add/remove programs)

then restart and when it goes to a: before windows starts up type fdisk c: or something similar to that.

when it is formatted restart and go to the BIOS screen then set it so the CD rom boots up first, then insert the windows 98 cd in to the cd rom drive.

then it will boot up the windows 98 cd rom.
install windows then enter the code (on the manual) then restart and it'll start up windows 98 for the first time.

then you set up all the hardware restart once more and you are ready to go on windows 98!

note: be sure to move your favorite files to another hard drive/Zip/CD-R/disk unless you want them to get wiped out.

anyway, your system performance will increase and you have so much free space on your hard drive now.

another note: be sure to check if you can change the boot sequence.

Good Luck ! =)
