more info wanted on raid

I have read some of you mentioning that a promise raid controller and dual ata66 drives are the way to go. I know very little about it. Can someone tell me more about this type of setup, or point me to a url with the info.

I found promise's site www.promise.com (http://www.promise.com) and it gave me a lot of info, can anyone tell me about experiences with the setup? It looks like a good system to me, but is the performance worth the $200 for the raid card and redundant disk?
