Got a new moboi with dual channel memory capacity.
I've 2 modules of 256 mb and 1 512 mb.
If i was to put in 512 which config should i go for:
1 * 512
2 * 246
wil this old ddr 333 (3 different brands) do dual channel?
cheers,
JW

You didn't say which kind of system you have, but:
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=1811&p=3
- DIMMs must be installed in pairs
- Each DIMM in a pair must be the same size (e.g. 128MB, 256MB, etc…)
- Each DIMM must use the same density memory chips (e.g. 128Mb, 256Mb chips, etc…)
- Each DIMM use the same DRAM bus width (x8 or x16)
- Each DIMM must be either single-sided or dual-sided, you cannot mix a single and a dual sided DIMM in a pair

no it wont, even if you have the correct mainboard.
Dual channels means exactly that, it goes in Pairs.
if you got 2, and then add 1, it breaks the cycle.
you will at least have to get another 512
also making Dual channel, requires 2 stick of the same RAM, if they are different, mostlikely will break as well.
in you case, you'll want 4 stick of the same ram

J/K! ;) But that's just a coincidence.
Both have relatively low post counts, both don't bother to post back after the initial Q has been asked.
here's my supposition - same person, one Q from work machine, t'other from home. ;)
def. different user, I'm not Pill2u!
Am in need of some additional info though.
Got rid of 2 dimms of mem and planning on buying an extra 512 dimm to get mij duallchannel in line again.
Will post new topic concerning SPP and birate mem

btw do use sysopt from work and home. Only ip differs here
:D

What about nForce2 ? ;)
I figured things out with your help.
've bought another (exact the same: KVR333X64C25/512) Dimm 512MB Kingston. Now I'm running dual channel (2*512MB).
Next thing is tuning the system. Already having oc-ed my cpu (2500+@3200+) so now memory and graphics are first in line...
Should I go for increasement in MHZ (333->400) or just tune time settings (CL etc). Does memory 'take' higher voltages like cpu does also?
And AGP, mobo can specify speed in MHZ . Cannot find how much (50-100MHZ) my graphicscard wil do: leadtek 6800LE (16,6)
cheers
