Hello,

I have a Tyan Dual Processor MB S1692DL with a single Pentium II 266 CPU. I just purchase the second Pentium II 266 and after installing it; the HD works less efficiently than before (it took a few second for single processor to convert 1GB disk space from FAT to FAT 32 and vice versa using Partition magic 4.01 while several minutes for Dual Processor). Any explanation would be greatly appreciated.

Pentium II 266 CPU SINGLE OR DUAL, 128 MB SDRAM, 9.1GB QUANTUM KA ATA66, PROMISE ULTRA66, #9 REVOLUTION 3D, 24X MITSUMI CDROM, 56K MODEM, SOUNDBLASTER, WIN98 (WILL INSTALL NT 4 SERVER IF POOR PERFORMANCE CAN BE RESOLVED).

I think the problem is that Windows 98 does not support Dual Processors.

I would recommend installing NT or Linux if you want to take advantage of more than one CPU. (I can't exactly explain why it's slower--maybe just the extra baggage that the system doesn't know what to do about...)

I would check bios options, if the MB is designed to make hardware calls to both CPU's and the OS isn't, there may be a setting to only allow one cpu to work until you get a MPS ready OS.
