I would just like to ask if there is any other free personal firewall application out there that is equally better with Kerio, Sygate and Zone Alarm that I can use and try? any suggestion?

There are elements of personal preferences in choosing Firewall.

My favorite of the freebees (I tried all that mentioned above) is the Old version of Kerio.

Link to: Kerio v215. (http://www.kerio.com/new/kpf_download.html)

 why do you find the oldest better than the newer one?

In the new version you actually install the for pay Pro version and it runs free as Pro for few weeks, then it start to nag you to buy the Pro and after a while it reduces itself to less capable Free version. The Pro menus are still there and if inadvertently you click on it keep minding you that you can Upgrade etc. I find this approach to “free” rather annoying.

Yea they nag a bit but what you lose in the free version is only the content filter options (ad blocking, popups) tho...

One thing I find weird is that once in a while all settings will be lost - basic stuff like nic cards, browser - and I have to re-authorize everything all over again.

Will give this version a try and see.
Thanks :t

Kerio 2.1.5 is my favourite free firewall also. Kerio has dropped the ball with version 4x; it is not well received by the folks at http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,11772305~mode=flat and is considered buggy and unreliable. That site is excellent for anyone that tries 2.1.5 and needs some help with rules.

outpost free http://www.agnitum.com/download/outpost1.html would be a good one if you are not sure about making rules.

What do you mean?

Does that mean Outpost free is a better choice for people who does not know anything about firewalls or how to configure them (like me)? I dont want to study on how to configure a firewall anymore and just wanted a protection from a firewall application so what would be a better choice? kerio or Oupost free?
(cause Im having problems with Sygate and ZoneAlarm)

I read the comparison of the Outpost Free and Outpost Pro version, does the features in the Outpost free compromised compared to Kerio version 4?

Outpost free would be a better choice in my opinion. It has presets for different applications i.e. media player etc. You can just say yes for apps like that and pick a rule that suits it. I haven't tried Outpost for quite a while but there are some here who use it and can verify if it is a little easier to use or not. Usually any "pro" version is going to be more configurable and is going to be a little more difficult to use; the free versions are usually designed for simpler use. IMO
There is going to be a learning curve with any firewall and it is just a fact of life with using the internet these days.

Yup....2.1.5 is my fave also. Had all kinds of problems with the newer version as discussed above. Tested 2.1.5 integrity with some different online firewall testing sites and it comes up a winner.

I like it so far... simpler interface, a single process and less memory used. Hopefully this one will retain my settings.

Well... :x

I used to have annoyances with 2 ports (1025 - 5000) showing as "Closed" with KPF 4.x... not anymore.

And that's that
