my cdrom drive does weird stuff.
when playing vcd's disc will stutter after a certain period of time

when tryin to make mp3's - even the wavs i copy to the hard drive are filled with pauses as my 32spd cdrom can't keep up.

It's like it can't keep reading data at a sustained rate.
I've tried using cd-quick cache doesn't help
can anyone help?
thanks

is your HD and CDrom on the same IDE channel? Try making the CD rom the master on the 2nd channel instead of Slave on the primary IDE channel

Turn off Find Fast if you have Office installed. It will scan your entire hard drive every 30 minutes to keep its ever expanding database current. It is usually a big culprit in the long running apps.

Under performance in device manager make sure your read ahead is set to max.
