I'm having trouble installing my old 33.6 isa modem (want to use multilink with a usr courier), its internal and I have had it working on my comp before.

I get it all installed and the modem diagnostic check reports everything is normal, however if I try to dial out it just says 'dial tone not detected'. I have checked all the cables and tried the tick box to remove dialtone checking but it still doesn't work.

can n e one help me ?

thx for your time,
DA

If you have a serial mouse, try the plug-in port if you have an adaptor. If I use a seriel port mouse and forget this conflict, I have the same problem.

Hope this helps.

your modem was burnt, because we install 67 new modems for our customers last week, they all have the same problem.

burnt as in dead ?
it works in my other comp tho, think it could be a win98 or irq thing (my other comp uses 95a)

With WIN98 anything is possible and it Bill gates never ceases to amaze me just how many updates with just as many problems can he get away with.

At first i though a cable but you said it works in your other machine under win95a.

What you can do is what i am doing and it aint multilink PPP. Never got anywhere with that as ISP`s although they say they support it they usually just mean for DUAL ISDN and not analogue modems. GO to www.midcore.com or search for a product called Midpoint Teamer or Midpoint Companion. With this software you can run 2 modems on 2 phone lines connected to 1 computer and ... welll for 2 v90 modems i can get speeds of 12 to 14k per sec. web pages are very very fast and you can use different speed modems, internal and external... i even have tried it with a 3com message modem ext and a pcmcia 33.6 on my laptop and it works fantastic. You ISP only have to support multiple logins... you can even dial in to one isp with one modem and a different isp with the other .... its the best
