Does any one know if the Pii-400 will run in an LX style motherboard. My M/B will support up to 400mhz, but only has 66mhz bus. Currently running a Pii-266.
thanks for help

That's alright, everyone is a newbie once. Even if your motherboard can support up to 400mhz, at 6*66mhz, the P2 400 will NOT run at 400mhz on an LX chipset because it uses the 100mhz FSB and is multiplier locked at 4 (in almost all cases, there have been instances of unlocked 400s) You can, however, run the P2 400 at 4*66, or 266, no problem, but that would be rather counterproductive. I'm afraid you'll need a BX motherboard to utilize that CPU to it's full potental. awwall 08-06-1999, 07:21 PM Thanks for Info. That was what I was afraid of. They get you everyway..coming and going, don't they. Again thanks aw beller6 08-07-1999, 08:08 PM It's true. You can't run that chip on an lx. I just bought a P3 and got a new motherboard for it. New memory, if you get a new mother you may have to get new memory as well pc-100 8ns is the prefered one. BBA 08-07-1999, 11:35 PM No, you can run it at 266, but why waste it? If you have the CPU and you have a LX board, as long as it supports a 333 P2 ( because a 333 runs at the same voltage a 400 does ), it will work fine at 266 until you get a 100Mhz FSB BX board.
