I hope you guys can help me a little. I'm working on my first build. I have a Soyo 5EMA motherboard and a AMD K-6-2 450 chip. I've checked and double checked all of my connections, switches, and jumpers.
Right now, all that is installed is the board, power supply, chip, RAM, AGP video card, and floppy. When I flip the switch, nothing shows on the monitor. The computer doesn't seem to look to the floppy for a boot.
It does beep. Sounds like 1 long beep and 3 short beeps. I have an Award Bios, and it's my understanding that this bios will only beep when there is a video problem.(although I thought it was 1 long and *2* short beeps)
Possible problem... My AGP video card instructions advise to have at least windows 3.11 up and running before installation of card and drivers. This is not possible for me, since I have no other video out. Should my card work enough to show a screen display? If this is my problem, what should I do? Is there a card I can buy that will work immediately so I can set everything up?

I'm completely willing to listen to other advice or suggestions. Thanks,

Jason

The AGP card SHOULD show you your bootup/bios screens and all necessary installation screens (for windows or whatever).

If you think it's the card (be sure to verify the beep codes), try buying a cheap ISA (probably used) or PCI card and putting in it.

Check the motherboard manual very careful (verify that you've set all jumpers and connections right, including verifying pin1 locations, etc).

Make sure the clear bios jumper isn't set.

That's all I can think of right now...

good luck
