I am having a problem with my new system crashing while playing games, both 2D and 3D. It stops working and the speakers emit a tone. I have an AMD-k6-2 with a Viper 770 Ultra and a SB Live value.

try installing directx 6.1 in addition to updating your sound and video drivers to the latest.

Hmm,had the same prob with my k6-2 450 and an sblive value. Not sure what the cause or fix is.I did a fresh install of 98 and then installed the liveware 2.0 and this seems to have fixed it.If you figure out the cause and a fix pls post and let us know,I hate when i fix a problem and still don't know how I did it.I am leaning towards maybe a driver conflict between the original sblive drivers and 98.

haven't you people heard !? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif the problem is directx 6.1, in some machines it causes games to do these things. you got to demand of microsoft a solution.

Found the prob. The ALi Alladin V chipset has a AGP driver. I was using 1.5 and I just had to upgrade to 1.6 and everything started working.
