Reinstalling my LS 120 drive into yet another new system I have broken pin 39 (or 40...the top one with pin 1 to rt) clean off.

The thing is that it still seems to read & write properly. Is there a chance that this pin is not used.

I have tried reading & writing to & from 120 meg & 1.44 meg discs & both !!SEEM!! to work ok.

Does anybody know for sure what this does?? Did I get lucky??

Lucky *******. If it still works, leave it alone. I have heard that some pins are expendable on certain devices but every time I ever broke a pin I was SOL.

I go with fishboy if works leave well alone, if you get problems, find a junker drive and desolder from board the do same to yours, then carefully solder replacement in.
MAKE SURE YOU TAKE ANTI STATIC, GET AN EARTH STRAP AND USE IT! before you touch your good drive,
other possible is try TANDY or RADIO SHACK for 40 pin connector if your feeling flush with $
