The chicken and the egg. Intel will fix the i820 chipset to handle Rambus. Rambus has announced they'll fix Rambus to work with the i820.
Yes, Rambus will happen. It is sad when the likes of Intel chooses the likes of Rambus while the majority of chip makers agree on PC133. Can anyone spell M-O-N-O-P-O-L-I-S-T-I-C ?
I hope VIA has something that that will make the i820 unnecessary.

~edit
Rambus will happen. It'll dominate.
$50 is a good buy. Whether it'll drop to this price (or lower) this time around, who knows. /forum/smile.gif

With intels recent announcements about rambus, do you still think it will eventually become as popular as originally planned? The stock is dropping like a rock today, and i'm thinking about picking some up if it keeps dropping.
thanks

Rambus will happen, that is apparent, and it will be slower than PC-100, that is apparent, and it will only handle 512mb, even with an IA-64 chip, that is apparent, so why rambus? By the way, will the 810 chip be compatable with present DIMM memory if put on the right motherboard?

Intel delays new chipset as Rambus falls further
Memory maker Rambus and chipmaker Intel today acknowledged that
the key component for making PCs with Rambus-style memory will be
delayed, a development that will impact a wide variety of
technology companies. Rambus stock took another hit on the news
today, dropping 11, or 15.57 percent, in midday trading. The
company's stock has been declining rapidly since CNET News.com
broke the story last week. The problems occur when all three of
the memory slots on a Rambus motherboard are filled, said an
Intel spokesman. Intel is still in the process of identifying the
exact nature of the problem, and the company does not have a
tentative release date for the chipset, he said. In a statement
issued this morning, Rambus identified the problem as affecting
some computers with three memory slots, "relating to the
combination of the memory system components, module
configurations, and motherboard design." PC manufacturers said
the problem would appear to be with the third memory slot, which
can cause the corruption or loss of data.
