Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Error message wont go away!
Hi Peoples,
Just a little prob that's bugging me. Anyone had a problem with an error message not leaving the screen once ok is clicked?. This really only happens with netscape, and no matter what i do, it stays onscreen till i've rebooted.Strange eh?. Well, anyone have an idea on how to remedy this??
Cheers,
PW.........
Ps, the error in question is "this program has performed an illegal action"blah blah....
That will happen...
What's the error message, and when exactly does it happen?
Hi SB,
well, Netscape tends to crash on some sites, and when it does, it comes up with " This program has performed an illegal operation". I click on ok, and Netscape closes. Then, the error message pops up again. That's when it stays on the screen and wont budge.I can click OK, but it's just replaced by another message. Using Ctrl+Alt+Del does the same. Sometimes in the middle of a net session you don't want to log off and reboot everytime it happens..Any idea's?..

make sure you don't have the Netscape monitor disabled, enableing it will usually get rid of the subsequent pop-up messages as long as you submit an error report.
I've gotten those too. I just re-launched Netscape, and it got rid of the error box. Then I rebooted, and ran scandisk, just in case.
I've been having alot of those problems lately, which I hadn't had previously. Odd thing is that the problems started to occur after I did a reformat/fresh reinstall.
I updated my video driver today to see if it helps and it didn't. My problems seem to more associated when clicking the mouse and bringing up a new page.

Funny you should mention it...I have one on my screen right now but its for Iexplore instead. I can still open new windows and nothing closed. everything works fine..i just dragged it under the task bar so it doesnt get in the way. Not sure how to get rid of it. I know crashguards do this but too much bother to just kill error loops. (eats resourses n stuff too)
I tryed to download a trial crash defender just do i can turn it on when i get a loop error, but darn thing counts off days even when ur not using it (stupid 30 day trial..hehe)
So i just hide it...I dont see how this interferes with anything. Kinda more annoying than anything.

Yep..mine does it to..a lot, so much infact I have gone back to ie5. Same problem as described above. Did not seem to do this until I upgraded to 4.61??????. And yes it seemed to happen on me mostly when changing screens or viewing pictures. Really beleive it has something to do with video, but within Netscape itself. I think the second error box that won't go away is the new thing Netscape put in to report back to them problems when Netscape faulted. Looks like the reporter is faulting and gets hung in a loop trying to report on itself, but can't.
Just my thoughts
aw
Here are my oddest observations:
Old HD, WIN98, Netscape 4.6, with 4.5 installed right on top...never a hiccup.
Got a new HD in the same exact system, a fresh install of WIN98, Netscape 4.5 fresh install. Lock ups!
I have exactly duplicated all the same drivers on my new HD as I had on the old, and haven't been able to fix the problem yet.

Awwall is right its a glitch in 4.6x, I was fine with 4.51 upgraded from 4.06. No problems until 4.61 was installed, I like netscape but I have reverted back to IE5.0, I get less errors running it.
I think it maybe a java issue that Netscape doesn't include in the download, I received the CDROM and almost all errors went away after I installed the accessory programs from the CD.

Did you change from fat 16 to fat 32? Maybe it is having a problem with fat32.
