First off here are my specs:
WinXP Pro SP2
768 megs DDR ram
GF3ti200 64 meg ddr
Athlon XP 2000+
Shuttle AN35N w/ nForce 2 Ultra 400 chipset
Soundblaster Live! sound card
Linksys LNE100TX(v5) Fast Ethernet card
Macron MPT-301 PSU

Since I switched to the Shuttle AN35n motherboard with nForce 2 Ultraa 400 chipset from my k7s5a I have been getting really bad latency in online games.

My ping will be around 70 but spike a lot to around 120. But my latency will be around 400 ms. I am having no packetloss to the servers, but a lot of the info i send to the servers are being lost.

I thought maybe it was the onboard LAN that was bad so I got a Linksys network card and I am still getting the bad latency. It isn't being caused by the network card, the modem, or the lines, those are all cleared. So I'm thinking it has to have something to do with my new motherboard. I ran memtest on my RAM and it was all cleared.

Any ideas?

Did you switch motherboards without a reinstallation of XP? Weird things can happen include bad performance when you don't reinstall Windows upon switching a major part of your system like a mothboard with a different chipset.

You could try a repair install of windows to see if that helps but I'm not sure...you might need the full reinstall. Ido n't say that often...maybe someone else has ideas.

Yes, fully wiped my old hard drive deleted partition and everything and then reinstalled winxp clean.

Anybody? Got any software that can check latency on different components?

What version of the k7s5a were you using?

Get rid of that PCI NIC again, use the onboard. But don't use the driver Microsoft ships for it, use the proper one from www.sis.com . ("900" ethernet)

SIS driver didn't help my nForce onboard lan much ;)

Sorry, got confused by the post before mine.

OK, new try. First thing to try is w/o the SB!Live. Creative's drivers are notorious for causing excessive amounts of PCI traffic even when the card isn't actually doing anything. Then, same thing as I previously said, if there are alternate drivers for your LAN device (vendor's vs. Microsoft's), try those.

Alright I'll try that.

Another thing I should mention is that when I tried to use CamStudio to record screen activity after reinstalling everything the video looks like it is cutting out a lot. It never did that before. So something might be wrong with my video card I guess too. Don't have another video card to switch it out with right now though to test that.

Yeah whenever I move around my mouse there is a low rumbling noise coming from my speakers, so when I get a chance I'll switch to onboard and see if there is a difference.
