Notebook w/ 2 com ports

I am needing to find a decent notebook with no less than 2 com ports. I havn't kept up with notebooks very much but it looks like most now come with only one. I can't tell but this may have occured when they started adding USB's, which brings up another question. Does anyone know if there exists a USB device that emulates a regular com port. If such a thing exists, it would solve my problem and allow me to buy most any notebook.

USB is just a fancy serial (Com) port.
If you need 2, assuming one is for a modem, what's the other for? If you are purchasing new hardware to go with the notebook, the new ones usually come with a built in modem, so you don't need the second com.

Trust me, I need 2 com ports. It is for use by a court reporter to who does "Real Time" transcription. The software requires one com port to link to her stenographic machine, and one to link to the judge's and other attorney's laptops.
