Ive been with this rent-a-cop company longer than any other company through my 13 yrs of being a fake cop.

I go to work a post on a unfinished bldg, just sit and watch overnight, make sure nothing gets ripped off or vandelized.
Simple job I do over the weekend, somthing I fall back on because im a parts handler during the week. But like every **** job, theres always a controll freak wanna be. Now ive been working this post for over 6 months. The post is over 45 miles from my house. The pay is not that great, because theres a little matter of wear and tear on my car, and the high price of gas. So to satisfy the people who put me on this far away post for nickles and dimes an hour, I took it, hoping they could in time maybe a few weeks because new accounts are ALWAYS coming up, put me somwhere closer. Well, im not the one to ever push myself on such a thing, just to make them happy...I take what is givin to me.

Now adding to this long drive is the extreme frustration of Houston traffic and freeway construction. It takes me over a HOUR to get to my house to job site. So a few weeks ago, I merely let the superviser know that this is alot of driving in the long run... Well he comes back to me and says.. "If you dont want to work this, ill get somone else." But they also dont want to come out and say "Either work it, or you dont have a job" Because they alway have "We're Hiring" in the employment ad. Well they take the new hires, and just to save them the trouble, and put them in anything that comes open, and not checking on more of a flexable way around to the old guys. In otherwords, youre stuck where you are.

Now, just after a couple of months of making them happy by going there back and forth 3 days out of the week, working only 3 nine hour shifts, thats 270 miles total. (Thats about how much my old *** car holds and will go on gas)... my transmision gives me trouble. So I spent $250 right there getting it serviced. It actually started to stall out on the way to work. So I called on my cell, told them I was having trouble, and no one would give me a ride all the way out there. They said "Fine, understandable, we'll get somone to cover for you." Now as far as I know at that time it was obveious to my guess we were over staffed.

Now just a few weeks ago, more posts open, and of course around THAT time it was the holidays, so they want people to work the upcoming holidays, because security is 24/7. On the way there, my thermostat went out. Called the superviser again (same guy) same situation.."I have no other way up there, and im not chancing burning my motor up." Superviser: "Ok, ill see what I can do." ... 3 hours later he calls back: "Um, you say your themostat is gone out?" Um..dah! Then he drops this bombshell, that I more or less went along with.. "Ill need to see the receipts or invoices you have stating when and where you bought the parts and the repairs." WTF!? I mean, this is such a discrimination. And it voilates company policy. I did not at any givin time sign a notice when this was a must, or was informed that we to do such a thing. So I told him: "Where is it written in the employee handbook that you have to do this?" He Says: Its not, I had to show them my Dr.s excuse when I was sick, so thats what they want for now."

So, again to make them happy, i showed it to them.

Now as of a week ago, without a proper notice, they raised the hours on the post, from 3 days a week (27 hours) to 7 12s... And I would split thurs. with another gaurd, because they hate paying overtime. So they left me a voice mail at the last minute, (the same *** kissing superviser).. "You need to come in at these hours!" GAWD!! I have told them in the past how much trouble it is as it was to go there at the hours givin. Now the do this ****. Then when I try to go ask the scedual manager, "theres nothing else around that meets your standards" So, again im stuck wih this place.

Friday night, on the way there, my brakes started grinding. Again, called up... "Im having problems, ill try to get it fixed" I did NOT want to use or say it was my car or being sick so they could hold that against me. So I also added.. "ill try to get it done...... But as I was talkign the superviser cuts me off "I gotta go, ill call you back"... Well, I get home, nobody around to help me get it repaired, or get the parts I needed. So then I decided to call back.... There was a voice mail..I told them the situation... They didnt call back, and I was too frustrated to call back.

Lastnight, I go there, and they for about 3 months have had a NEXTEL radio out there that is used for us to call on and off duty... It never has worked, it always says "Service not available". So to cover my *** I have to use MY OWN PHONE to call on and off, which is also not in the employee guidelines. I call and again the superviser makes up his OWN rules... "Hey you NEED TO CALL 2 HOURS BEFORE YOU DECIDE NOT TO SHOW UP!" I said in a HUFF: "How am I suppose to do that, if somthing breaks down on the way there without warning, or Im stalled out on the side of the road!?" Then I got irate and said "Im tired of busting my as,getting lied to, and backstabed tring to kiss your *** and make you happy!" Superviser:"Well you can leave now, and ill find someone else! In fact ill be there to work for you" I said: "No! Im here, im going to get my $s worth!" He Said: "No, I don t want you there!" So I tore out.

Im halfway home, he calls back.... "Where are you?" Dah!!! "Well im calling the field manager to see what he wants to do with you!" Well, he told me to leave!? I can go on and on about what this company does in violation that I can throw against THEM if they fire me or what not.

*SIGH!* .... I dunno what to do. As I said, this is just to fall back on. But again, I HATE switching JOBS!

Jobs are a dime a dozen. Quit and find something else to fall back on. It sounds like its not worth the aggravation, damage to your vehicle, and the amount of time it takes to get there.

My 2 cents:
Most people change jobs (even occupation) several times in thier lifetime. Is changing jobs or occupation scary?...YES!
It is even scarier to imagine that you could be in the same position(s) another 13 years from now. Sometimes you have to take one step back in order to move two steps forward.

It sounds as if you have been working 2 jobs with very limited long-term potential for quite some time. (no -offense meant)
I believe you should consider developing a career, as opposed to going from one dead-end job to another. The idea is that one well paying/skilled job should pay better than 2 dead-end/low paying ones. (thats the idea anyway)
You have shown that you posses some skills by fixing your own car and being tech-savy enough to find this forum. :p
What industry do you handle parts for?...It there any place for advancement in this "parts place" business/industry?
As I said....Everyone tends to change jobs. It sounds as if it may be time for you to move forward too.

BTW-
Many-many moons ago, I worked as a security gaurd for a company whos name sounds a lot like "Stinkerton". I was posted at a "controlled access/entry" at a large apartment complex. (boy do i have some stories!)
I had enough of that **** after about 3 weeks.:x
Guess I was just not cut out to be "stinkerton" material! :D
Good Luck with it.

Thats food for thought. Thanks. But one problem, its a very small business/ industry, the parts handeler that is. Its just a 2 bay door shop, about the size of corner-store. lol! Stinkerton? I would never dream of working for. Ive applyed there, but I think I was rejected the 2 times a few years ago because of either the color of my skin, or I was too good for them because I over-qualified.

Don't be devastated by having to find a new job. Before I worked for myself, I once had 5 new jobs in 8 years. I went to work for my competitors.....they value your experience and knowledge. View it as an OPPORTUNITY.

RailFan, i really feel 4 u. i wish i had a good solution. as NathanG sez, one good
job pays as well or better than 2 ***** ones. but how? the only answer is education? but how to get educatn if your working 2 jobs? well no ez solutions here, sorry. i assume ur working 2 jobs to support a family? if not,
HERE is the solution:
work 1 job, cut your living standard if necessary to make up for the reduction of income from no 2nd job.
go to cheap community college at night,
master vbs, html, c++, java, unix, whatever. find out about apprenticeships
as a plumber, air conditioning repair, electrician, etc. your 29 YOU can solve this problem and you MUST.

I hate changing jobs too, but sometimes a way better one is just around the corner if you take the incentive.

Th problem with that is that you are in limbo for a while till you get that next job if you haven't allready found a new one first.
