LONDON (Reuters) - Matt Lucas' squeal of protest -- "I'm the only Gay in the Village" -- has been voted the greatest comedy catchphrase of all time in a poll of almost 4,000 British viewers.

The petulant one-liner from the corpulent Welsh Gay Dafydd came top for the award-winning BBC series Little Britain.

Second in the poll, published Tuesday, was the late comic Tommy Cooper for "Just Like That" followed by Homer Simpson's "Doh!"

In the survey for entertainment channel UKTV Gold, Little Britain scored with three of the Top 20 most memorable catchphrases.

Teenage delinquent Vicki Pollard's outraged "Yeah but .. no but" came fifth while David Williams' anguished transvestite cry of "I'm a laydee" came 12th.

4000 isn't a lot of people to survey, especially on something so diverse as fav comedy sayings.
Little Brittain is a good show (especially the surreal sketch links voiced by Tom Baker), but has a rather limited audience and this is shown by the poll's demographics.

I'd have thought that "whats all this noise, we'll have no trouble here" or "this is a local shop for local people, theres nothing for you here" would be more popular were a wider audence polled.

Yea Little Britain is flavour of the month at the moment, next year it will be something else and the media will be saying 'such and such' has been voted the greatest comedy catchphrase of all time.

Its all a load of cobblers, not the show but all these so called surveys, it all depends on what the media want to ram down your throat, create an interest, create a demand, exploit, exploit, exploit.
