I want a 939 pin, but without robbing a bank, I;ll also need a mobo and ram. The rest of my machine is t!ts already, but this 2400+ is a major bottleneck for my xx800xt pe.

Taxes should be rolling in shortly and for the board, cpu and ram I'd like to stay in the $600-$800 range . I have new drives and would definitely want to stay IDE interface with AGP (I am not tossing my graphics card just yet,)

Really looking for something upgradable. What would make a smoking gamer for what I have.

Also have my case and an antec trupower 430 watt so I'll not be needing anything other than board, ram, chip, and heatsink.

I spent awhile looking for a similar setup, except I had around 300$ to spend.

So something not too expensive would be:

a 3000+ 90nm ~153$ from newegg.com

a k8t neo2-f 98$ from newegg.com

or a

k8n neo2 platinum 148$ at newegg.com

And corsair's xms memory looks nice. 138$ for 512mb
once, again at newegg.

So for 1gig of ram(276$) one motherboard that works well according to hardocp(148$) and one low end cpu that I believe overclocks well(153$) gets you stuff for 577$

That's one option I suppose.

atm however, tigerdirect has a special on a mobo/cpu/case combo. a 939 pin 3500+ with an asus a8v deluxe mobo. that's 300$(after a 100$ rebate, which apparently they can be horrible about) and then you can add the corsair ram back on, and come out at 576$ish with that setup.

Thanks man,I think I'll go the newegg route and just upgrade to the 3500+ from them.

Is the k8t neo2-f better than an Nforce board? Is the driver support for the boards good?

I run an Nforce now, and I have always felt a little funny running an ATI card on an Nvidia based board.:D

not sure about the neo-2 f, but i wouldn't think so. It's a budget priced board, so it'll prolly just be good for you if you are using a cheaper cpu or whatever. If you want to use a 3500, i would say look for something else. But then again, I haven't researched that one all that much. You could probably find out more than I know about it in an hour or two of reading.
