Just picked up another system for my network. Intel 3.2e etc Win XP SP2. Set up seti gui first. CPU utilization per task manager @ 98 to 99% (no screen saver etc to run faster). Tried command line version to get more, runs at 48 to 50% utilization.
My other systems are AMD with W2K running. All have util at 98+ % with the command line. Any body got suggestions-explanation? Is it HT? I'am new to these intel buggers.

You are correct, it's the HyperThreading. The CPU looks like 2 processors to Windows. When you run the command line client, it only run's on 1 of the virtual processors. I have a program at work that installs the SETI CLI as a service for both of the processors, but I found this website (http://www.telepath.com/~dennison/Ted/SETI/SETI_Service.html) that has aprogram that automatically installs the SAH CLI as a service for multiple CPS systems. I have't tried it, but it looks easier that the one I modified to install it on my systems.

I think Intel sohuld go back to "no hyper threading" just have a 3.4ghz 800mhz bus" hyperthreading makes it work more!

Thanks smith, tried it on a couple of systems. Works great running as a service. Only thing is even using the multiple cpu commands, the 3.2 still shows at 50% util, even set at higher priority. I think it is the HT. Got it setup on a 2.6 without HT and shows 98+% util. Gonna have to play with it. It is nice though not having the client text window open. Nobody knows it's there anymore. Silent and Stealthy. We'll see if it speeds up my performance over the command line. I know it definetly will over the gui I had on the XP systems. See if I can get WU times under 3 hours for the 3.2. I average just under 3 hr 10 min with my AMD 3200 oc'd at 2300 using command line.

If this program is like the others, check to see if you used the subargument -cpu 0 and -cpu 1 commands. There is another script at this website (http://www.nelliott.demon.co.uk/distributed/seti_service.html). This is the script that I use for installing the service on the multiple CPU systems. You have to tweak the seti.reg and install.cmd files to get it to work with your systems though.

Ok, Ive got 3 systems running seti as a service. 3200 XP, Intel 2.6 and the 3.2. Last 12 hours did 24 wu's delivered. Quite a bump from before. Once I get the 3.2 figured out to run 2 process, should kick it up even more per day. Just can't quite get everything set right to make use of the HT with both as a service. Gonna have to look around for a n00b's tutorial someplace.

seti hide will allow you to run 2x CLI instances at the same time for use with a HT PC. you should find it keeps to 98-100% all the time this way.

I gave up on the HT/dual process. In me ignorance went BOOM a couple of times. Just gonna be happy with my 49% util and wu's under 90 minutes each average between 3 systems. Looks like I got the lowest time per wu for the sysopt team. And to think the first 1000 were done on AMD 1400 & 1700 running in screen saver mode!
Just for the heck of it I loaded cmd line on my REAL old laptop 66 mz with 64 meg memory, 500 meg hd, 12" color LCD! Paid 2500$ for it in 97 or 98, don't remember. I'll post the results of when the first wu is done, probably next month sometime!
