Put my CD in my Plexwriter 12 and tried to install it. But, the light just flashes and it won't load. Don't see the installation screen or anything.
Tried the CD in another PC and it works fine.
Do some CD's just not like CD writers or something? Any solutions?

Have you tried cleaning the drive? Do other games install fine? What about firmware upgrades?
No CDs, one of the many benefits of Steam :D

No CDs, one of the many detriments of Steam :(
Certain drives have a problem reading the copy protection used by HL2 and other new games. Its called Safe Disk, although I'm not sure what version they are up to now.
This is all detailed in the HL2 Support section at www.steampowered.com

How's that? :)
Of course you could just right-click on the game and click "backup", thus giving you a CD or DVD of any/all of your Steam games, which would contain the same 1's and 0's as the retail copy.

Its an absolute pain, to say nothing of the authentication problems encountered when HL2 was initially released.
Its possible to back up your games now but that feature has only been available for a short time.

True, but any "authentication problems" were simply a matter of such a high volume of activity on the Steam servers...which was to be expected for such a highly-anticipated release.
The backup feature has been available since before the release of HL2.

Their news page listed it as a new Steam Feature well after the release of HL2.
