Way back in June you shared the "trick" of using an AMD K6-2 400MHz CPU in an old TX mobo. (Set the multiplier to 2X on a 66MHz FSB and the CPU treats it as 6X.)
I said I'd give it a shot if I got a K6-2/400 cheap enough. I finally did; it was FREE and you can't get cheaper than that! Popped it in the TX mobo, changed the multiplier to 2X and, hey presto!, it works absolutely perfectly! Even recognised correctly by the BIOS!
The TX mobo was made way back in 1997 and the highest speed given in the manual is 233MHz. I've been using an AMD K6-2/300 in it for some time and I thought that was pushing it to the limit. But . . . 400MHz! Not fast by today's standards maybe . . . but for a 1997 mobo? Yes! And without any kind of overclocking, overdrive or adapter? Definitely!
Many thanks, George. Any more "tricks" you want to share? /forum/wink.gif

Ha Ha... /forum/biggrin.gif thanks for the kind words. and Congratulations on the success.
Like everyone here, I am always anxious to share a tip or trick.
I have learned so much from this board, so very much. I take my A+ test (both modules) on Friday. Wish me well. I will then be taking the Network + probably in January.
Hey CMonster,Good Luck on the exams. But,judging from your past posts I don't think you need it.I am currently working on my networking essentials and my CNA and they don't seem to be to intimidating. After That I am going for NT and WIN95\98 Certs.
Then I am going to Start looking for someone to pay me lots o' money /forum/smile.gif
Just seems like experience should be a factor in this field but, in the town I live in this does not seem to be the case.Everyone wants Certs.

Wish you well on the A+, CMonster? Why bother? You'll sail through it with pennants flying!! You're way beyond that level already.
And good idea with your exams, ENVY. It sounds like you've got plenty enough experience already. Might as well get it officially recognised with certs and get properly paid for it!
I'm considering exams myself . . . but I'm wondering whether hardware or software (programming) is the way to go. I've noticed in my firm that it's the programmers who get the plush carpets and air conditioning. We techies are stuck with concrete floors and spartan comforts /forum/frown.gif There must be a moral in there somewhere!
PS~ Thanks for the welcome, Socalgal. Nice to be back /forum/smile.gif

Why not get certs in both sides of the business - can't do anything but help...and yes, it does seem that programmers get more $$$ - - at least until a group of them write a voice programming program,,,,, and put themselves out of a job -- we'll be writting code with our voices and compiling at the same time. /forum/smile.gif ....IT's coming... MS' worst nightmare...MY CAT!!!!!!!!
