Merk 08-02-1999, 02:03 AM in a word - NO. you'll need to use a fat32 enabled version of fdisk - from win95 osr2 or win98. Probably easiest to make a boot disk with format, fdisk, himem etc on a friend's pc with win98 - if you don't have a bootable cd drive good luck theguy 08-02-1999, 02:45 PM If i was to use fdisk from a windows 98 pc to partition it into one drive and then put windows 95a on it would it work. philipg 08-02-1999, 03:00 PM Technically it won't work. Because..... 95a uses 16 bit files transfer and has a size limit of 2.1 GB where as 32 bit file access can see a drive up to around 2,000 GB. I honestly don't think it will work but you can try worst that will happen is you will end up making 4 partitions 2.1 GB and the 5 the remainder. You can use the win98 fdisk to make the multi-partition. Just when it asked you if you want to enable large disk support say no this will force 16 bit file access. fishboy 08-02-1999, 03:46 PM Yep. no go with that idea. I would just ask around and see if you could get a copy of OSR2 or 98. Your other option is to actually buy 98. Its not bad at all. Willie 08-03-1999, 06:36 PM Just be careful... A HD that was formatted on a WIN95 machine WILL NOT work on a WIN98 machine, nor vice-versa. I found this out the hard way... I was able to copy my files, but had to drop to DOS to do it... and thus, sacrificed all of the long filenames. (It was a directory full of MP3 songs, the filenames were the titles! UGH! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif Oh well, at least I can still play them!) I have WIN95 OSR/2 with all of the latest upgrades, bug fixes, etc. here at home. That is the machine I used to format the HD (32 bit) and to copy the files onto. The other machine was a "factory installed" WIN98 box at work, where I took the HD from my home machine, and tried to copy that directory onto it's HD. Willie... (but it does) smokin1 08-04-1999, 01:26 AM my thoughts are to boot with a win98 disc then format allowing large disc support the run the win98 upgrade cd you have it will ask for proof of upgrade eligibilty and off you go no need to install win95 on your clean machine [This message has been edited by smokin1 (edited 08-04-99).] SysOpt.com
