I have two computers using the internet through the same phone line, so a line runs between the "phone" port on one to the "line" port of another. Had a problemt w/ the 2nd modem giving a Busy signal if the line was connected, so I bought a new modem and installed it. It shows up in device manager as working fine. Connecting a phone to the line gives a dial tone, and I'm on my laptop on the same exact line that plugs into the 2nd modem, but on the 2nd PC, I get a "no dial tone" error.

Some modems have problem if connected this way.
Buy for few $$ A line splitter and connect them both directly to the line.

hmm....they're in seperate rooms. I actually have a line in my "phone" port on my PC which goes to a splitter which in turn goes to my phone and then into the other room for the other PC...it's worked before. I'll pull the PC and take it to the other room to rule that "rejection" issue out.

ok moved the PC into my room and connected directly to line..."no dial tone" error. Put the old modem back in and still same thing. I don't really want to dig the modem out of my PC to troubleshoot this thing. I'm running WinXP
