I just bought an Abit BX6/2 board and a Celeron 366a chip to upgrade my system.
Just as windows is about to run for the first time it requests a password (I just press enter), the instance all the icons appear it freezes and most of the icons dissapear. I have tried this numerous times, as well as trying win95 and win98.
I have removed all cards except the ancient S3 trio video card. I was running win98 on my old system (166) with all my cards and no problems (accept slow).
I am also not overclocking.

Have you checked your RAM .If it is not seated properly it can freeze your system
Or it could be causing conflict
Try going into WIN in safe mode, look at Device Manager and see if there are yellow exclamations or double entries. If you do, delete them and reboot.

Thanks for your reply's, I have tried safe mode, but when I get into windows none of the addresses have been allocated so I can't do anything, I also checked the virus detector in BIOS (as I have had that problem before), I will try that memory card adjustment and see if that helps, also Nathan's page has a few idea's which I'll try. Thanks again, I'll get back to you.

There is an update file on the Microsoft site which fixed my system. It's geared to the AMD K6 processors, 350 Mhz and up. I don't know if that will fix your problem (being that yours is a Celery) or not, but it can't hurt.
The problem is related to a timing loop in one of Window's MULTITUDINOUS DLL's/VXD's (or whatever) that can't handle the fast processors without the update. Mine wouldn't even get past the boot-up... no desktop, nothing. (Fortunately, my MoBo has a "SLOW" option in the BIOS, which allowed me to get the system running, log on, search, and find the fix. It screams at 400 Mhz, in "FAST" mode, now!)

Fixed!
Had to remove one of the driver files from the system.ini.
Now just to iron out all the minor glitches.
Thank again.
