I don't have the legit version of the OS and have Dos 6.22... Mntsnow 08-02-1999, 09:38 PM Well, Some might give me guff for helping someone that is NOT a legal owner of the software that they are trying to install...but here goes Nothing needs to be placed in either of those two files... Insert your Win98 startup disk and throw the Win98 cd in the cd rom drive.... boot system and your off to the races....Its just that easy Mntsnow Help! 08-03-1999, 02:40 AM But isn't it obvious taht I should at least install the CD-ROM drivers first and type both lastdrive=<drive letter>? Are you saying I don't even need DOS if I have the start-up disk? Doesn't make that much sense.. Cause flash utility requires the full version of DOS(Pure DOS mode)? Or, do you mean this setup disk sets and configures nearly everything for me? Thanks! Hey BTW I might buy a legit version of Windows Millenium. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif 800XL 08-03-1999, 03:19 AM The hard drive can (read should) be completely unpartitioned when installing Win98. Boot from the startup disk, partition drive, reboot, format drive, run setup from the CD. Help! 08-03-1999, 05:08 AM Thanks but.. how about Dos? You mean that start-up disk already has a simplified version of it? Steve R Jones 08-03-1999, 06:31 AM Yes, forget about your DOS disks. Your win98 startup disk should load your cd rom drivers. The startup disk will have command.com on it, which is what needed to boot the pc. Help! 08-03-1999, 06:58 AM Thanks! One more question please.. With the Startup disk from now on that is supplied by the retail version of Win98 and could be created with a simple program or command from Win, does it mean I would not worry about FAT16 ever again and use FAT32 forever? Thanks again!! SysOpt.com
