I am currently using a 3.2GB Fujitsu HD and want to install a 105MB Quantum prodrive LPS as a second HD in order to create some backup files. I hooked it all up, went into CMOS and told it to auto detect all the drives. It found my 3.2GB as the primary master, the 105MB as the primary slave, and my CD-Rom as the secondary master. When booting into win95, the computer freezes at the splash screen. I haven't done this procedure before so I'm curious as to what else needs to be done. Do i need to go into "integrated peripherals" and alter anything? Or what else is it.

You shouldnt have to do anything else. Try booting with a W95 startup disk. Run fdisk and set up the partitions and format the partitions with the W95 startup disk. What version of W95 do you have? You mat have to limit your partitions to 2 gig each usless you have Sr2 which supports fat32.

what do you mean 2 gig partitions? the backup drive i'm installing is only 105 megs. the other drive works fine by itself. Also I am using win95 OSR2.

archangelm,

The problem to me sounds like you are trying to run a 32 fat and a 16 fat on th esame ide cable.

My recommendation is don't you'll cause all kinds of data corruption or in your case lock-ups do to the APM in your bios/win95.

If you must run that second drive either put it as slave on ide2 or get a 540MB drive so your system runs in only 32 fat mode not both.

Good luck.

Ok, I tried switching to the other cable and it had no effect. So now what.

i access my hd manufacturer website and download the master/slave/single jumper settings screenshot for my st3144a 130.6mb old hd
i have a wd ac26400 6.4gb hd 32bit fat with a seagate st3144a 130.6mb 16bit fat using the same cable they both work fine
and i also used fdisk and reformat the seagate hd ~the seagate was from my old 386sx20mhz a very good computer -never did crash
