tried burning avi. files to disc using this guide:
http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/31/59/
Got all the way to Step 9 and then got the following msg:
ERROR TRACE
KEY, ASC, ASCQ, ASCLEN=3,2,0,a
I hit "OK" and then got:
WRITE DATA FAILED
Hit "OK" and disc ejected.
Any thoughts on how to proceed?

lol.I guess that's where the whole "w/an attitude" comes in:D
Ok, can you make any recommendations on what to use for someone REALLY dumb:confused: and is looking for "one-stop-shopping"? What about converting w/dvdSanta and burning w/NeroVision Express 3?

***ALL I want is to burn avi. video files off my hard drive into QUALITY DVD's (VCD?) on a DVD+R disc to play in my portable DVD player. Tech knowledge is VERY low  so "one-stop-shopping" and EASY is MUCH preferred.

nero should do that i think. I use Pinnacle Studio 9 to burn my videos after I have edited them.

Nero or Roxie Easy CD Creator should do what you want, but you still need to learn which settings work and which ones don't using each program. There is no "please set up this program to do exactly what I need done even though I have no clue how to configure it" program.
I would make sure I bought a sleeve of at least 50 blank DVDs if I were you because you will burn a TON of coasters before you get it right. This assumes your DVD player is compatible with DVD +R disks.

:D That is HYSTERICAL and sadly true. Started w/a box of 5 discs and have already created 4 REALLY nice playtoys for my cat.
What's the difference between burning a video DVD with NeroVision Express 3 OR Nero Burning ROM? Do both accept DVD+R's?

If you already have Nero's Vision Express 3 , then it will do everything you want ... Capture, Encode , Edit, Author, Burn . It is hard to find good guides and tutorials , but the help file should get you started. BTW, they both use the Nero recording engine to burn . ;)
FWIW, everyone I know who started making or converting home movies or the like , always goes thru several programs to find what works for them. So don't be disappointed in yourself or your system if you find yourself searching for a better program to do some particulair function. I wont be surprised if you end up with several in your tool box in the end.
You might also checkout WinAVI or Ulead DVD MovieFactory, they always get a nod as being good AIO's .
