New Sound Card?

I have a headset with a microphone on it... I was recently holding the headset in my hand, and when I turned around, it swept against the front of the screen, and I think the static messed up the microphone.. The recording does not work at all, but the sound is ok... Since all this goes through the sound card, do I need a new sound card?

have you tried seemingly simple stuff like checking the connections and using a different mike or testing that mike with oyur stereo or something similar.

I've checked ALL of the connections, I've opened up the box, and checked if all the cables that could possibly affect the sound card are OK, and if the sound card itself is properly inserted in the slot... Ive tried 3 different microphones, I've checked to make sure the drivers are installed and Ive checked the recording/sound settings... It doesn't work.
