when I plug in any printer or my iomega zip drive to the parallel port and the device is powered up the computer will not boot, it just beeps and beeps continuously.

If I try once the computer is running then the printers work fine, but of course I can't do this with the zip drive.

Can anyone help please?

I was over at Iomega's site just now. They mention that with parallel Zip drives you have to power the Zip and computer on at the same time or else the system will hang at boot.

Did you move the Zip to a different wall socket or powerstrip?

Use the same surge-protector or powerstrip to powerup at the same time. And as Bob-NB pointed out about the connections...

You are a little short on details. Does either one work separately? You may need to check in your bios/advanced for your LPT1 set-up. I suspect you may have it set on bi-directional, and may need to change it to ECP or EPP. Than being the case, I believe that there is a pass-through port on the ZIP. If so, plug in the ZIP first(to the computer), then the printer to the Zip in the daisey chain.
