Asking for a friend:

Having a problem finding a GOOD quality TV "out" card for a customer. Any ideas?? they are running a Celeron 500 98mb RAM
yadda yadda yadda. I need an internal device not a external. I require it to be a PCI card as there is no ISA slots. Any ideas?????

I am desperate this customer is breathing down my throat .....

P.S.
I do NOT want a "ALL in WOnder" Type card, i want a stand alone card.

ATI also makes a good "stand alone card"

Just wanted to raise a point here. A TV out solution integrated with the main video card is much easier to manage than a stand alone card. With the video card generating the picture and outputing it to the TV directly, everything goes to the TV. With a stand alone card, full screen and windowed applications may or may not be displayed correctly. Not that I am overly fond of ATI's All in Wonder line, but a one card solution is likely to have less problems.

If they are looking for a specific application, such as playing DVDs, something directed at that application would likely be better. A Hollywood DVD decoder card with TV/S-video out would be perfect for DVD playing, for example.

happauge{sp} has a good card out.
Cicuit City has them if you don't want to wait for shipping so you can get the customer off your ***

Actually i am installing it onto a Compaq 5721 presario unit with an onboard video card that you cannot disable. I have tried installing
the all in wonder pro , aswell as the all in wonder 128 but no sucess with either.

Q: Why do they want a TV out card?

If they wnat to play DVD's from their computer, then look for a DVD or MPEG2 decoder card with a S-Video out.

If they want to watch their computer on tv, there are plenty cards out there that can do that. The problem is likely to be the onboard video controller. You will probably have to disable it. Try contacting Compaq, they may have a solution for you. Also, I haven't seen an onboard controller yet that I can't disable or bypass.

BTW, if it is Win98, I've been told that it supports multiple video cards. So you may be able to put another card in the system even with the onboard controller.

Hope this helps!
Good Luck! /forum/smile.gif /forum/smile.gif /forum/smile.gif
