I am using an ESS ES56T-X Data, Fax, Voice modem. During the connection handshake, It sometimes takes 2min. or more to verify username and password, and even then connects only about 1 in every 20 times it attempts. This is not a problem with our other computer (which uses a Thunderlink PCI modem and identical settings/ISP). Are there extra settings or tips that will get this thing working????

might be a stoooopid suggestion but try it at different speaker volume levels

It sounds like a problem with the driver. There may be a newer, better one at the ESS website. But in the meantime, visit these sites:
