They are all unlocked right! RQS 01-03-2005, 03:26 PM If you're talking XP Mobiles, yes they all are unlocked. Not 100% sure about Mobile Semprons and 64s but would be shocked if they're locked because laptops must be able to change multipliers on the fly. The one most people like is the 2600+. Hard to say which week to get - it comes down to the luck of the draw - sometimes a 2500+ or 2400+ will do better than a 2600+. It's rare to get a bad one though - all should do better than a true XP3200+. Ankun 01-03-2005, 03:40 PM I recently bought a 2500+mobile and it is probably the crappiest one i've seen anyone get, I can still pull about 2280 mhz on it though. Recordlord 01-03-2005, 05:31 PM Thanks for the replies. I rarely OC these days just dont have the time to piddle around. Dang work sucks!! I had a lot more fun unemployed. 12 hour sessions of 1.3 Counter Strike juice up on nodoze and play Everquest for 2 days those were the days!!! I have a MSI K7n2 Delta2 Platinum just opened it up. I have a Bartion 2500 got it up and runnin'. This board has a lot of neat little OC options I am wanting to try out. Looks like I will be putting work and this chip on the back burner!! I have an inside guy who works with Newegg who always gives me free stuff when I order. Which I do 2 or 3 times a month. Just shurts, stickers and general free stuff. This last order he put some Geil Thermal grease in for free. Yall ever used this grease before its copper based wondering if it might adhere better than silver would. I know silver has a continuity value and is more malable. Just think since the base of most heat sinks are copper one might see lower temps. Hmmmm I wonder how much a solid silver heat sink would cost?? Then I might consider Arctic Silver #72 or what ever they are using these days. RQS 01-03-2005, 07:24 PM If you've got a desktop Barton XP2500 (especially if it's unlocked) you might want to play around with it first. Even if it's locked, if your mobo and RAM support FSB200/400 it's worth a try to OC to 11x200. It's free since you already have it and don't want to do a big OC. I will say that I also have the desktop 2500+ and just barely can get mine stable at 11x200 @1.65V - not reliable any faster at that voltage. My three mobiles, 2200+, 2400+ and 2600+ all are much better chips. Pull out the DT Barton, put in any of the mobiles and no sweat at 12x200 @1.65V (no other changes to the system). Other people have done much better. If you have a 266 or 333 system then with any of these CPUs you'll have to get to multipliers over 12.5. Don't know anything about that TIM. I suppose it's ok. Happy Joe 01-03-2005, 08:43 PM It seems like the mobile 2600s get better overclocks as a rule (some need more than 1.8 volts, so excellant cooling is imparitive). The mobile 64s are locked on the top end but the can be underclocked for cooling (lower multies have been left unlocked). The days of the unlocked multipliers are almost over. Enjoy! Unless you get a FX chip ;) Although pricing may pose its own set of problems there. RQS 01-04-2005, 12:27 AM Thanks, Happy, it's good to know mobile 64 multiplers work downward. That'll still give a lot of flexibility. But I did read something about the FSB speed being built in Athlon 64s instead of controlled by the motherboard clock - so overclocking will be a little more complex I guess. SysOpt.com
